Sometimes you want your Sitecore contents to be protected, and sometimes you want the contents to be personalized for a logged in user, this user may be logged in as a Sitecore user or the session was created by any other method, Let me put some example use cases:
1. There is a transnational micro-site in a website which allows the sales agents to sell the product from a product node in content tree, this page can only be opened by an agent,
2. There is a customer dashboard which he/she can see after login for the their transactional records,
In above 2 scenarios we may require a user to redirected to a login screen, or open a login overlay.
